#RadChat: Standing Up in Difficult Times

June 24, 2025
7:00pm – 8:30pm Eastern Time (US & Canada)

Organized by the Social Welfare Action Alliance (SWAA)

  • Are you overwhelmed by the daily barrage of news about people’s rights being violated?
  • How do we protect ourselves and each other?
  • How to continue to push back and fight for a better world?

#RadChats are hour-long open-ended conversations hosted by SWAA members. These sessions are not recorded. This month our topic is Standing up in difficult times: A conversation for and with radical social workers and allies. We will discuss resistance in these uncertain times and then we will share ideas and suggestions on how we can support one another

SWAA Co-Hosts:

Rosemary Barbera is a social worker committed to radical social change and ending all carceral systems. She is committed to working with others to build a society based on equity, community, and solidarity. She has worked in Chile and Bolivia doing human rights work. In the US she has worked on human rights issues, including the human rights of immigrants, economic human rights, an end to family policing, and social policy. She is also a social work educator at La Salle University.

Nicole Capozziello, MSW, PhD, is an organizer/activist and freelance writer on issues related to food, the arts, and social justice. She recently completed a PhD in Social Welfare at the University at Buffalo, where her community-based research focused on nature access for underserved populations.
